Bristle Feel Guide

Soft Medium Firm Coarse Ultra Coarse

Choosing a brush online can be tricky when you can’t actually feel the bristles in your hand, so we’ve created our Bristle Feel Rating to make things a little easier. The scale runs from Soft to Ultra Coarse, helping you quickly see whether a brush is better suited to gentle grooming and finishing, or tougher jobs like lifting mud, dirt and loose hair. Softer brushes are ideal for sensitive horses, fine coats, clipped coats, faces and final polishing. Medium to firmer brushes are great for everyday grooming, while coarse and ultra-coarse brushes are best for thicker coats, dried mud, hooves, buckets and tougher yard jobs.

What is the Borstiq Banana Arenga Brush used for?

The Borstiq Banana Arenga Brush is one of those really useful yard brushes you will reach for when your horse comes in muddy, greasy or just generally in need of a proper groom. The firm, natural arenga bristles work into the coat to help lift mud, dirt and grease, rather than just brushing over the top. It is especially handy for thicker coats, winter coats, muddy legs and the first stage of grooming before you move on to a body brush or finishing brush. The curved banana shape makes it comfortable to hold and easy to use, especially for smaller hands.

For a muddy horse, an arenga brush is a great choice once the mud has dried. The firm bristles help lift the mud from the coat before you follow with a body brush.

Arenga bristles are firm but still natural, making them useful for working through mud, dirt and grease without feeling as harsh as some very stiff brushes.

Yes, it is a really handy everyday grooming brush, especially for horses that live out, get dusty or come in with mud and field grime on their coats.

You can use it carefully on less sensitive areas, but for freshly clipped or sensitive coats, a softer body brush or finishing brush may be a better choice.
